Amstelveen is a suburban town and is situated south of Amsterdam. Lots of green and a real residential neighbourhood.Amstelveen still takes the record for the fastest growing municipality, with the population currently hovering around 80,000. There’s a diverse international mix and, if this is the place you settle, you’ll soon get used to hearing English, American and Japanese voices in the local shops and bars. The overall impression here is that of suburban prosperity. There is good housing, an excellent shopping centre, great sports facilities, and the Amsterdamse Bos is right on the doorstep. All this, and the heart of Amsterdam is only 12 km away.
All these factors make Amstelveen a popular location for Expats, especially as many international companies also find it an attractive setting for their offices. Trade and IT are big business in Aamstelveen. Schiphol airport is just down the road, and the road links are excellent - handy if you need to take regular trips out of town. If you’re interested in that kind of thing, Amstelveen was twinned with Woking in 1983, with the signing of a Charter of Friendship following in 1989
